History: We, Marethe and Poul Erik Speth, took over the place in 1988/93 with our four children. During the first couple of years we had e.g. a horse, Hereford cows and fruit trees at our 10 acres of land. In later years the horse stable and an old barn have been rebuilt into two new vacation houses. In 2001 the first vacation house was rebuilt and in 2010 the old barn was turned into a vacation house with two double rooms. We live in the middle of the island of Fyn close to the city of Odense, half an hour’s drive from the sea and beaches. Our place has a big garden and we are located in the middle of an area of forest which borders on protected areas with lake, fields and meadows. Ravnebjerggyden 31 in Blommenslyst has been lived in for many years – since the 1700s. Originally, the house was named Nymarkshuset, and it was owned by the Olsen family for 200 years. The thatched property was then located on the old main road from Middelfart to Nyborg right outside of Odense. Today there is no longer such a road. Only the quiet gravel road which cuts through the hills of Fyn remains. In recent years the area around our property has been the object of attention. This is because the underground here is to be the future reservoir of drinking water for Odense and the surrounding areas. The consequence of this is that the area, which is several hundred hectares, is now designated for forestation. Our 10 acres of land is border lining this area.
